Purple Sea
Official Section
The mass media, as vehicles for representing newsworthy reality, have succeeded in turning every migrant or political refugee and ultimately anyone who suffers into a superfluous fiction for spectators who, even if wanting to, will never manage to empathise. The subject of the news is always a third person: in the distance, a radical other. A figure running, crying, swimming and dying. A figure with human form, never a tangible human being, with a body with a temperature of 36 degrees (except when s/he is dead or burning under bombs). But reality is completely different: bodies grow cold when they fall into the water on their deadly crossings towards possible lives.
