Toula ou le génie des eaux

Trasfoco

In a region of Niger facing endless droughts, water is no longer just a simple resource. It has become a sacred mystery. The community, afraid to provoke the anger of the water spirit, feels forced to return to an ancient ritual that demands a human sacrifice to appease the spirit who guards the springs. Toula, a young woman marked by fate, embodies this tension between life and the sacred. As the village is caught between faith, fear and necessity, a young man in love rebels against fate and sets out on an uncertain journey to find another solution. Superstition, silence and a landscape that seems to be dry also on the inside give rise to a profound reflection on how water, or the lack of it, can influence the beliefs and actions of an entire people.
