Educational Sessions

Students during an educational session in 2019

Description of the programme

Since it first started back in 2011, the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote has organized this section aimed at giving young people an insight into other kinds of cinema, a type of cinema removed from the commercialism of big productions. In the knowledge that, for some decades now, it is the image and not the word that largely defines reality through multimedia devices, the festival wished to promote the critical capacity of younger generations. Since then, for each edition of the project we have collaborated with the Cabildo de Lanzarote’s Youth and Education departments, while at the same time contacting a number of the island’s public schools so that their students can attend the Sala Buñuel in El Almacén, where a film is presented and screened, after which the students are invited to talk about it. The goal of this activity is also to acquaint the schoolchildren with a cultural centre which plays a key role in Lanzarote and to introduce them to other kinds of audio-visual experiences.

This year, the person commissioned to mediate with the students is the director of the residencies programme and member of the curatorial team of AADK Spain, Elena Azzedin. An artist, cultural manager and freelance curator, she has worked in many different areas of contemporary art, with a special interest in its educational, political and social facets.
