Historical documents in archives and libraries show that greedy sailors, aspiring conquerors and dream-filled adventurers petitioned the highest authorities for permission to seek out and lay claim to an island: San Borondón. Situated by some in the Canary Archipelago and tentatively marked west of La Palma on certain maps, this mythical island was even considered at one point to be a fragment broken off the continent of America. For centuries, its ghostly presence captivated those who sailed these waters. Sometimes it was there; other times, it vanished without a trace. Centuries later, there are those who claim that they have finally found it.
