Letters to My Dead Parents

Sección Oficial

In Chile, an elderly man looks out at his back garden and rediscovers the small beauties of a distant past. In a gentle voice, he writes letters to his dead parents, trying to build a bridge to a time that has gone but is still with him in deep down. With each word, he relives his childhood and youth, lost affections and the lingering shadow of a dictatorship that marked his life and that of the whole country. His voice travels to places that no longer exist and memories that refuse to be forgotten, while the present filters through like an echo that never completely fades. Through fragmented recollections, moments of awareness and heavy silences, the film reveals how public history is permanently inscribed in private lives and how memory remains alive even after the people we love have gone.
