It is almost impossible to put a number on enforced disappearances in Colombia during the civil war. After decades of armed conflict between paramilitaries, the army, guerrillas and drug traffickers, the country is haunted by missing and unclaimed bodies, as if national identity were consolidated over a brutal, collective disappearance. Against this backdrop, non-normative bodies, such as trans people, live under permanent state of threat, exposed to violence and murder. On the other side of this cruel reality, a group of forensic investigators works tirelessly to locate, exhume and restore names to those who were erased from the face of the earth. This counter-spectral act adumbrates a possible path toward reparation and, maybe, toward a national refounding.
