Profit Motive and the Endless Sea

For centuries, the history of Lanzarote has been defined by the scarcity of a key element for the development of life: fresh water. Generation after generation have lived and died looking at the sky and waiting for the arrival of that precious good without which life is just not possible.

But, while waiting for the few annual rainfalls, they built different types of tanks and deposits to trap and store the invaluable liquid that makes it possible to work the land. All this water culture changed with the building of the first desalination plant and the expansion of mass tourism.
