The Shards

A young Russian woman watches her life and her country fall apart under the pressure of a powerful political regime, war and fear. After her mother dies and her lover flees, the growing certainty that everything she once had is lost pushes her towards an underground culture that opens up another way of surviving: secret raves, bodies striving to feel something, pounding music offering some kind of release. In this dark yet vibrant realm, each new meeting reveals a different crack, a flash of fury or tenderness that sustains her while the entire country seems to crumble. In the midst of personal mourning and an ever-harsher present, a portrait emerges of a young woman, camera in hand, who tries to piece together her own fragments before it’s too late.
