Trasfoco: The Salt Section

Araya

The time is 1958, the place is the dry northeast of Venezuela. Here one can find small communities that try to survive on the little that nature has given them, for the most part fish and salt. The unbearable heat, the lack of water and the poor connections with the city make this a practically uninhabitable place. The life of the various families who live in this place largely revolves around the boats on which they set out to fish and also on the tools with which they extract salt with great effort under the relentless sun. Every member of the family, from the youngest to the oldest, collaborates in the arduous day-to-day chores of the community. These are the mythical salt-flats of Araya.
