Change One’s Life

When a middle-aged man called Adelino returns to his home village after many years in Africa, the woman he used to love is no longer waiting for him. Tired of listening to the terrible stories told about soldiers who had left to go to do their military service, she decided to remake her life and married his brother. Then, with great restraint and understatement, the returning man faces the most profound tensions and tragedies: the feeling of emptiness, the consciousness of failure, the certainty that everything has lost its way and its meaning. Without knowing which way to turn, Adelino tries to set his life back on track through work: fishing, salt extraction, new factories… But work is never a good substitute for the deepest emotions and passions.
