Trasfoco: And Life Goes On Section

On 26 September 1963, nearly four years after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, a tropical storm hit the Cape Verde islands. One week later, on 4 October, the storm reached Cuba, now upgraded to the category of a hurricane, advancing erratically throughout the north and south of the eastern region. Great mudslides flowed down mountainsides and filled valleys like seas. Thousands of people lost their homes, harvests and lives. Animals were swept away by powerful currents. In the middle of this terrible natural disaster, Fidel Castro, in his role of charismatic leader, took charge personally of the rescue and reconstruction work: the Revolution stands by the people!
