Trasfoco: The Volcano Section

Ixcanul

María, a young indigenous woman from Guatemala, finds the world she inhabits claustrophobic. Although she respects and abides by the traditions of her ethnic group, her secret dream lies on the other side of Mount Ixcanul, a volcano on whose slopes she picks coffee beans. There, on the other side, is the legendary land of promise, the USA, a place where electricity, dollars and the good life abound. With that image in mind, María will do whatever it takes to abandon her future husband, her parents and her community in order to reach this paradise. However, the violence in her home country, where differences between race and class are insurmountable, gets in the way of her dreams.
