Trasfoco: The Salt Section

My name is Salt

Every year, following the period of great floods in the region of Gujarat, India, many families decamp in old dilapidated vehicles to places that look like vast deserts. After setting up flimsy huts, they begin to recover the most basic tools with which they work every season. Time is of the essence, as there are only a certain amount of months before the monsoon rains come around again and their work will become impossible. Little by little, using the most rudimentary machinery and engines, they start to prepare salt pans to extract the salt from the earth, working with great care. Then the relentless sun does its work to produce one of the whitest salts in the world.
