Trasfoco: The Salt Section

Salt for Svanetia

Svanetia, a mountainous region of the Caucasus, attracted the attention of the early Soviet filmmakers because of its isolation and primitivism, the extremely harsh life of subsistence based on agriculture and livestock, but also the severe salt of salt because they were often cut off from the outside world for long stretches of time. This creative, expressionist and deeply political documentary is a hymn to the new times and progress that are coming as a result of the October Revolution which promises to answer all the material requirements of all the communities living in the Soviet Union. Just as there were no obstacles for Stalin’s economic development plans, neither are there any for this documentary full of beautiful images, poetry and political conviction.
