Si no hubiera viento
Sección Trasfoco: The wind
For centuries the wind in Lanzarote has been a necessary and extraordinary source of energy, used for sailing and fishing, and also for countless mills both on the coast and inland. These elegant engineering works were used to pump water in the salt flats and to grind grain, millet and chickpeas, the basic foods on an island were fresh water was scarce and famine was frequent. Men and women from the island speak about these structures which have almost disappeared today or are in a dilapidated state; about the culture surrounding them, what they meant for their towns and villages, and the whole economy that grew up around them.
