What does the project consist of?

Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote gathers these days numerous one-minute videos recorded by people from the island in which they answer the following question:

“What should Lanzarote be like from now on?”

The idea behind this compilation of videos is to give people on the island a parenthesis for reflection and expression, to make the most of the COVID-19 crisis and turn it into an opportunity; a brief lapse of time to allow everyone to project their image of the future and, minute by minute, to focus on the island we wish to build together.

It is all about thinking of the future from the pause that confinement has imposed upon us, which is to say, without the hustle and bustle of everyday life which, as we can now ascertain, brings infinite risks with it.

Never before has everything come to a halt like in these last few months. We are facing an unprecedented social and financial disaster. But we have also been presented with a one-off opportunity that the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote wants to take advantage of. Therefore, we invite everyone on the island to take part in this project that is both a vision of how to rebuild our present and an audiovisual gift for the future.

Who can take part?

We invite every individual who has a connection with Lanzarote and wishes to express their vision of the future.

What for?

The videos will be posted on various online platforms and social media. We will also take from them the subjects that concern us most as a community. In addition, all the information will be archived in order to give future generations a chance to understand what we, in 2020, wanted Lanzarote’s future to be like.

What steps should I follow?

  1. Reflect carefully and record a video of up to a minute answering the question: What should Lanzarote be like from now on?
  2. Submit your video. You can do it by WhatsApp, on the phone +34632343550, or by email at the address coordinacion@muestradecinedelanzarote.com.

The cinematographic reference of the project

In 1980, the filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski directed Talking Heads, a 15-minute short in which he asked people of different ages to answer two questions: “Who are you?” and “What do you want?”.

The various answers revealed different aspects of Polish society of the time: its limitations, contradictions, hopes and problems.

Following in the wake of the Polish director, at this particular moment in time the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote is compiling one-minute videos recorded by people living in the island in which they respond to the question: “What should Lanzarote be like from now on?”
