Education & Training

One of the vocations that Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote has had since 2015 has been the holding of practical courses for young people and film enthusiasts. Throughout the last years, numerous activities have been carried out in which topics on different cinematographic practices have been discussed. This year, in addition to the usual course for young people and fans that is always held, two courses for children will be launched.

Educational sessions for schools

Dates: 26-30/11/2018
Time: 11:00
Venue: El Almacén
Language: Spanish

One of the key motivations of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote is to maintain direct contact with students and to introduce younger generations to independent film.

In today’s world, where audiovisual languages change at great speed and colonise the whole spectrum
of the real, it is important, if not essential, to focus on non-commercial cinema.

The films presented and debated in Muestra deal with topical issues and crucial questions for our social-political environments, or condense a profound historical and cultural background. Therein leis their particular importance for those still forming their criteria and their approach to the world.

Every morning, from Monday 26 to Friday 30 November, the film director Nayra Sanz Fuentes, together
with students from different secondary schools on the island, will analyse and discuss the films projected at the Muestra: What does filming/recording mean today? What is the impact of an image? Its power? Its reach? To what extent do images shape our ways of doing and acting? Why should we take care of
and be aware of the images we use, receive and create?

The aim of these debates is to reflect on these questions and become aware of the fact that images are not mere products, but also discourse, ideology, power, violence and strength. We must be ready to engage with them and not be subjected to their power.

With the purpose of bringing children into closer contact with film, Muestra has organised for the first time two short 2-hour courses for children under 12.

During the course, led by Salvi Vivancos, the children will create 16mm or Super-8 films directly with their hands, without cameras, using everyday materials like markers, scrapers or ink. In order to get a better insight into the workings of analogue film, before actually intervening in the film stills, the children will be taken through a number of practical exercises to teach them how cinema worked only a few years back.
